The School Day
Travelling to and from school
Mead Road School takes place in the Smart Movers programme to incentivise children and families to choose healthy travel options. Information can be found below:
The start of the school day
School starts at 9am for every child. We have a window of entry between 8.45-9am daily to allow children to enter school, join their class and begin early morning work so that they are ready for their register at 9am. This helps parents with siblings at other local schools to logistically manage the school run.
Wraparound care is available in the form of a breakfast club ran on site by school staff, from 7.45-8.55am daily for those who need it. A charge applies for this service.
Assemblies
We hold regular assemblies within school, usually at 9.05am daily and on a whole school basis to teach children about our core values, special events of cultural/religious significance and our behaviours for learning. Friday assembly is our celebration assembly, in which we celebrate the efforts and achievements of children within school and nominate our stars of the week and our value wristband winner (linked to our value focus). We also use this assembly to celebrate extra-curricular activities and achievements inside and outside of school school, as well as attendance and a celebrate of birthdays.
Break times and lunch time
All children in Owls and Toucans have a 15-minute play time at 10.15am each morning. This provides them with an opportunity for unstructured play, exercise and fresh air within our school grounds. Children in Robins do not have a set play time as they benefit from autonomous play within their inside and outside learning environment all day long!
Lunch time is between 12-1pm for all pupils. Children have the opportunity to eat a freshly prepared, healthy hot lunch in school, or to enjoy a packed lunch provided by home. They then access our school grounds for additional unstructured play and exercise and can partake in enrichment activities and clubs provided by staff, or when possible outside agencies.
The end of the school day
School ends at 3pm for all pupils Monday-Thursday and from 1.05pm on Fridays (for the Autumn term 2020 only, as part of our Covid risk assessment related procedures).
Wraparound care is available in the form of an after-school club ran on site by school staff, from 3-6pm daily for those who need it. A charge applies for this service.
When possible to do so, a range of enrichment clubs runs after school led by outside agencies. These clubs are signed up to by interested families and a charge applies. Unfortunately, our club offer is currently paused in line with our Covid assessment.
